I like music. I like to hear music. I become ecstatic when I hear music. But I have one bad habit. I first collect the lyrics; understand the meaning; understand the thathva of the lyric. Then I search for a good singer. So far so good. But now comes the disappointment. No singer sings the full sankeerthan. This is a very small keerthan of only FOUR STANZAS of a sloka. They sing only two stanzas, burrying the other two in time, never to recover them. Are we not doing a great sin ? It is like making a sankalpam to do ashtothara sathanama puja and doing away with 10 or 15 names. SADASIVA MAYAMAGU NADONKARA SWARA GATHULU JEEVANMUKTHULU. So said saint Thyagaraya. Singing a keerthan is offering NADA to Lord Shiva. Incomplete singing is NADA APACHARAM. Can there be a greater sin than this ? I pray the singers to present the complete keerthan and pass on the music to the next generations.
